Hunt Public LandLegally & Responsibly.

The NSW R-Licence Accreditation Course is the mandatory training required before you can apply for a Restricted Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) — the licence that allows you to hunt on public land in NSW, including state forests managed by the Forestry Corporation.

Delivered by an accredited Hunter LEAP instructor (LEAP Trainer No. 13622-13), the course covers NSW hunting regulations, public safety, ethical hunting practices, and animal welfare. You will also complete accreditation modules for your chosen hunting method or methods.

This course can be delivered together with the Hunter LEAP Firearms Qualification Course on request — contact us to arrange a combined session.

  • Must be 12 years of age or older (ages 12–17 require parent or guardian consent)
  • Must be a current financial member of an Approved Hunting Organisation (AHO)
  • No prior hunting experience required
  • Photo ID required on the day
  • Sober and attentive attendance for the full session

Upon successful completion, you'll receive your R-Licence Accreditation Certificate — which you submit with your AHO membership proof to NSW DPI to apply for your Restricted Game Hunting Licence.

Frequently Asked

What is an R-Licence?

A Restricted Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) is issued by NSW DPI and allows you to hunt on designated public land in NSW — including state forests managed by the Forestry Corporation. You must complete the R-Licence Accreditation Course and be a member of an Approved Hunting Organisation (AHO) to apply.

Do I need a firearms licence as well?

If you intend to hunt with a firearm, yes — you will need both an R-Licence and a valid NSW Firearms Licence. We also offer the Hunter LEAP Firearms Qualification Course, which can be taken together with the R-Licence course on request.

Do I need to be a member of a hunting club?

Yes. You must be a current financial member of an NSW Approved Hunting Organisation (AHO) before you can apply for your R-Licence. Contact us if you need help finding a suitable organisation.

Can I take this course at the same time as the Firearms Qualification Course?

Yes — both courses can be delivered together on request. Contact us to arrange a combined session.
